(Livonia, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's soccer team went east on I-96 to take on the Madonna University Crusaders in a WHAC matchup Wednesday afternoon.
Cleary started off the game strong, creating a couple chances in the box, with a shout for a penalty that was not given. Madonna grew into the game, and started to assert themselves in the Cleary defensive half. The Cougar defense stood tall, and made the stops they needed to keep the game scoreless in the first 45 minutes.
Madonna would get the game's big break early in the second half. After Tara McGrath made the initial save, Cleary was unable to clear the ball out of the box, and it was recovered by the Crusaders. McGrath would make another save, but the ball found the back of the net on the third chance. It would prove to be the game's only goal.
Tara McGrath suffered the loss in goal, making 5 saves on 6 shots on goal. Cleary was outshot 16-2 (6-1 on goal), and the Crusaders also held a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Cleary is now 2-7 overall, 0-2 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back at Lake Trust Stadium this Saturday, September 30, when they welcome the Cornerstone Golden Eagles for a WHAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
