(Sylvania, OH)-- The Cleary Cougar women's soccer team found themselves in a defensive struggle Saturday afternoon, but were unable to find the breakthrough they needed, as they fell to the host Lourdes University Gray Wolves 1-0.
The game's only goal would be scored from the penalty spot, after Cleary committed a foul in the box in the 27th minute. Lourdes' Payton Childers would convert the penalty, and give the Gray Wolves the go-ahead and game-winning goal. Cleary's defense was under pressure for most of the match, but the defense, led by goalkeeper Tara McGrath, kept the Cougars in the game and didn't allow a goal from open play.
Tara McGrath made 10 saves on 11 shots faced in a losing effort. Lourdes held the advantage in shots by a 16-3 margin, and an 11-2 margin for shots on goal.
The loss drops Cleary's record to 2-4-2 overall, 1-1 in the WHAC. The Cougars will return to Lake Trust Stadium for their next WHAC matchup on Wednesday, September 25, when the Rochester Christian University Warriors come to town. The game is set to get underway at 7:00 PM.
