(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's soccer team played their second straight game at Lake Trust Stadium Wednesday evening, as they took on the Indiana Tech Warriors in a WHAC contest.
The Cougars struggled to connect their passes with each other, and the Warriors would start to use that to their advantage. A giveaway in their own defensive half led to a Warrior corner kick, and on the resulting set piece, the Warriors connected on a head into the top left corner of the goal to take a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute.
Still trailing 1-0 in the 61st minute, a Cleary half-clearance found the foot of the Warrior left fullback, who sent a through ball up the middle to the foot of a Warrior forward, and she toe-poked the ball past Cleary's goalie Tara McGrath, giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead. Cleary had a golden opportunity to get a goal back in the 79th minute, when Payton Zeh sent a cross in from the left to the head of Tamara Trumic. Unfortunately for the Cougars, Trumic's header hit the left post and did not get the favorable bounce into the net, and the score would remain 2-0 for the rest of regulation.
Tara McGrath would suffer the loss in goal, making 7 saves on 9 shots faced. Indiana Tech outshot Cleary 18-14, with a 9-4 advantage on shots on goal as well. Cleary held a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks, and committed 9 fouls to the Warriors' 7.
The loss drops Cleary's record to 3-7-3 overall, 2-4-1 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back at Lake Trust Stadium for their third consecutive home game on Saturday, October 12, when they take on the Siena Heights Saints. The game is set to begin at 4:00 PM.
