(Southfield, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar women's soccer team played their first of three straight road games to conclude the regular season Saturday evening, as they were in Southfield to play the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils.
In a fairly balanced game, Cleary would get on the board first, as they capitalized on a Blue Devils turnover to take a lead in the first half. LTU would attempt to play out of the back, and made a pass directly to Cleary's Morgan Vanos, who fired a shot with the keeper out of position, and into the back of the net in the 31st minute. Cleary would still a 1-0 lead into the hafltime break.
Still leading 1-0 late in the second half, LTU would find their equalizer. The Blue Devils would take a shot from distance, that took multiple deflections, and ultimately found the foot of Naiara Ripoll, who put a rocket of a shot on frame from 30 yards out, and was able to get the ball passed Tara McGrath, and tying the game in the 83rd minute.
Neither team would break through down the stretch, and the game would end 1-1 for the second straight time for the Cougars.
Tara McGrath made 6 saves on 7 shots faced in the draw. Morgan Vanos' goal was her fourth of the season, and her third in the last five games for the Cougars.
Cleary is now 3-8-5 overall, 2-5-3 in the WHAC. The Cougars will have their bye next Wednesday, and will be in action on Friday, October 25, when they are in Ann Arbor to take on the Concordia Cardinals. The game is set to begin at 5:00 PM.
