McLelland leads Cougar harriers at Siena Heights
(Oct. 3, 2020 - Adrian, Mich.) - Normally at this point in the fall, the cross country runners from Cleary University would have had several events under their belt. Due to COVID, head coach James Frank has been diligently searching for any opportunity to get his team out on a course. Such an opportunity quickly came together as four teams gathered in Adrian on Saturday afternoon. Host Siena Heights was joined by the Cougar runners as well as those from Concordia and Rochester.
Abby McClelland (Fr. - Port Huron, Mich.) was the first Cougar to finish with her time of 23:08.39 with Skyann Cansler (Fr. - Eaton, Indiana) a little more than a minute behind at 24:22.47.
Alyssa Lane (Sr. - Byron, Mich.) finished third for Cleary at 25:08.97 with Miceala Mendoza (Fr. - Erie, Mich.) shaving nearly eight minutes off her first collegiate race as she finished 23rd on the individual leaderboard.
Cleary will have two weeks to focus on training before competing again as the Cougars will next be at the Concordia Old School Invite in Ann Arbor on Oct. 17 with their final scheduled event being a week late at the Midwest XC Challenge in Indiana.
