(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary University Cougar baseball team played a pair of "road" games vs. the UM-Dearborn Wolverines at Lake Trust Stadium Friday afternoon.
In Game 1: Kristian Scalf led off the game with a solo home run to left field, and Spencer Jamieson singled home Ben Cerven and Ethan Hollister to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. UM-Dearborn scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the 2nd, while the Cougars added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the 7th to win game one 5-1.
Lucas Withers threw a complete game, striking out 5 and only allowed 3 hits, en route to his third win on the season. Kristian Scalf led Cleary with a 2/3 game and 2 runs scored.
In Game 2: After Billy Flohr got the Cougars on the board with a sacrifice fly, Andrew Piloske added an RBI triple to give Cleary a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. A Wolverine home run narrowed the deficit, but Cleary added runs in the 4th through 7th innings to take control of the game. Jesnel Soto had a 2 RBI single in the 4th, while Marcel Garcia had an RBI infield single in the 7th. UM-Dearborn did make things interesting in the bottom of the 7th inning, as they scored three runs, but Jeremy Fuchs came in relief and picked up a three inning save, his first of the season.
Quinn Foster picked up his first win this season, allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 5 in 6 innings pitched. Marcel Garcia went 3/4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Sam Browne also went 3/4 with a run scored.
Cleary improves to 13-11, 2-4 in the WHAC. The two teams will be back in action on Saturday for another double-header at Lake Trust Stadium, weather permitting. Though the game is at Lake Trust Stadium, Cleary will be the road team on the scoreboard.
