(Olivet, MI)-- It was a defensive battle between the Cleary Cougar men's soccer team and The University of Olivet Comets Wednesday evening in Olivet.
Neither team would find the back of the net in the first half, but the Comets got the game's first break in the 49th minute when Abraham Jimenez scored to give the Comets a 1-0 lead. Lesman Morazan would answer six minutes later, scoring his sixth goal of the season, and tying the game at 1-1 in the 56th minute. The score would remain tied 1-1 until Cleary committed a foul in the penalty area, and Olivet's Zachary Stephan was able to beat Austin Freemire on the ensuing penalty kick, scoring what would ultimately become the game-winning goal.
Austin Freemire would make 2 saves on 4 shots faced in a losing effort. Olivet outshot the Cougars 10-7, though all seven of Cleary's shots were on target. Cleary held a 2-1 advantage on corner kicks, and committed 13 fouls to the Comets' 7.
The loss drops Cleary's record to 4-3 overall. The Cougars will look to get back to winning ways this Saturday, September 21, when they travel to Sylvania, Ohio to take on the Lourdes Gray Wolves. The game is set to begin at 6:30 PM.
