(Howell, MI)-- The Cleary Cougar men's soccer team played their second straight home game Wednesday evening, as they welcomed the Aquinas College Saints to Lake Trust Stadium for a WHAC matchup.
Aquinas would take an early lead in the 18th minute, after Brandon Tracy was called for a hand-ball in the penalty area, and the Saints would convert the ensuing penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. In the 34th minute, Cleary would be called for a foul in a dangerous position outside the penalty area. Aquinas would deliver a dangerous ball to the back post, and found a Saints' player's head to make the score 2-0.
Cleary would come out in the second half having grown into the game, but the Saints defense limited the Cougars to few dangerous scoring chances, and the game ended 2-0.
Austin Freemire made 7 saves on 9 shots faced while suffering the loss in goal. Aquinas outshot the Cougars 18-6, with a 9-1 advantage on target. The game was a very physical affair, as the two teams combined for 34 fouls.
The loss takes Cleary's record to 6-5 overall, 3-2 in the WHAC. The Cougars will be back at Lake Trust Stadium for their final home game of a three-game homestand as they take on the UM-Dearborn Wolverines as part of Cleary's Homecoming festivities. The men's game will begin at 7:00 PM.
